ACROSS is an Interdenominational Christian and Humanitarian Organization serving South Sudan since 1972 with a mission of ‘’Transforming lives and communities in South Sudan and beyond.’’ ACROSS is looking forward to recruit a qualified South Sudanese to fill the position of VSLA Officer.
General Description of the Role:
To manage community mobilization, peace building and CMMF activities as part of the Peace Economy ‘Programme in Rumbek/Adol
Key Duties
Peace Building Component.
- Sensitization of chiefs & Elders of Akot & Paloc on the need for peace and reconciliation structures, exploring the root causes of the on-going conflicts and the most appropriate strategy to address it.
- Advocacy for harmonious relationship between agro-pastoral & pastoralists
- Viewing documentary “Dinner with Martha “on Agro-pastoralist conflict & discussion sessions.
- Training of the 3-member Councils of the Chiefs from 4 payams on how to mediate peace and reconciliation with facilitators from YRI & SSPC & develop selection criteria for peace advocates and action plan including dissemination of info on Land Act, 2009.
- Trauma healing sessions through community dialogue meeting with testimonies from Malengagok and Cueicok which made peace in Nov.2013.
- Monitoring and data collection of conflict occurrences, peace mediation in collaboration with SSPC, Boma & Payam Administrators (Local Gov)
- Develop monitoring forms and update on monthly basis
- Mileage for Field staff for monitoring and data collection on conflict occurrence & peace mediation from Boma & Payam HQ.
- Peace Award for Peaceful communities
- Award to be used for Mobile courts/ common meeting place
- Appreciation for Peace songs by Women groups of Karic & Pacong
- Monitor and support the mediation processes in areas of conflict.
- Participate in Lakes State Conflict Mitigation and Stabilization Sector Coordination Meetings with state and non-state peace actors
Participatory Integrated Community Development (PICD)
- Sensitization on envisioning of PICD plans at 4 local church/ communities in the Payams of Paloc and Akot in the Diocese of Akot.
- Training on PICD information gathering processes that generate their baseline reports, set their development priorities & plans and formation of Community Development Committees (CDC).
- Training of CDC to monitor implementation of prioritized community development plans, develop indicators to monitor the implementation of their plans.
- Monthly monitoring and follow up of CDCs functioning.
- Participatory Quarterly Evaluation.
Community Managed Micro Finance (CMMF) component.
- Sensitization sessions for community elders & chiefs on the concept of CMMF and selecting Community Based Facilitators in Paloc, Mathiangkok, Malengagok, Cueicok.
- Training of Community Based Facilitators.
- Training materials-Kit of study material on CMMF, notebooks, pens, group registers
- Training of new members on CMMF: 6 group trainings of 6 days duration
- Formation of 6 CMMF groups & Monthly monitoring visits to train groups and individuals on selection and management of income generating activities (IGAs) for SYOB, memberships in Cooperative Societies.
- Community Based Facilitator (CBF) motivational incentive in Y1 to facilitate 3 groups per CBF including functional literacy (7 already formed and 6 to be formed)
- Support for SYOB (locally developed initiatives such as shea-butter collection and processing etc).
General tasks.
- Prepare computerized project reports and monthly work-plans.
- Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises to determine effectiveness of activities.
- Support other Peace Economy program activities where requested.
- Deliver timely financial report.
